16 Things!

I was tagged by Conner Byrd over at WorshipCity to do this . . . so . . . here goes nothing . . . well actually it is something . . . but maybe only just to me . . .

1. I have three special needs children. My oldest daughter is 15 but developmentally a 6 month old, another 14 year old daughter with juvenile diabetes, and a 12 year old son with some special needs.

2. I played bass and sang backup in a Christian pop/rock band called RadioHalo while my wife and I lived in Houston. We were signed, and had tours scheduled . . . until our manager determined that God didn’t want him to do it anymore, so he took our money and ran. It was there that I first experienced the hell that is the Christian music industry. Never again . . .

3. My first guitar was a P.O.C. that I bought when I was 13 at an old fleamarket outside of Nashville on my way to Dutch Pennsylvania for a family vacation. I bought electric guitar strings, old fender bullets!, and used those, as I was afraid of the aggressive nature of acoustic strings on fragile fingertips! I plinked and plucked all the way there and back. Bless my dad for not pulling over on the side of the road and doing a Pete Townsend on it somewhere in Kentucky!

4. I am a Creative Director by trade at an environmental waste packaging company.

5. i bought my wife’s engagement ring in Nashville when, during college, I went to audition for Opryland USA. I didn’t want to go and audition, I just went with a friend who was going. I got the gig . . . he didn’t. He is no longer my friend. LOL! Any hoot . . . after the initial audition, of which I met Minny Pearl, may God bless her soul, we went to a local mall. He went straight to the game room, (let me insert here for those who are not familiar with a gaming system OUTSIDE of the home! A game room was a place where you flushed quarters down various toilets with flashing lights and 8 bit music.) and I walked around. Where there was a jewelry store going out of business. I already knew my wife was the one for me, so I went and looked and found one. Now here is the kicker - I used my college fund checkbook to buy the ring. That didn’t go over so well with the parents! LOL! Looking back, I don’t regret it!

6. I have a vanilla wafer fetish. Wait . . . my TASTE buds have a vanilla wafer fetish. I am just a captive to it, a prisoner if you will.

7. When I used to write lyrics for the Christian band I used to front, insert shameless TREEFROG plug here, I never knew what I was writing. I just let it flow. The strange thing is how they always seemed to make sense and have twists on themes. When someone would say that they were deep, I just agreed . . . LOL!

8. I HATE the book of James in the bible. I refuse to read it or 2 Timothy. For what it’s worth I have disdain for Romans also. You see . . . when I read anything that heaps coals of condemnation on my shoulders, I refuse to acknowledge it! LOL!

9. I lead worship for our youth group at church, and have been stumped theologically by a 13 year old girl. I have our youth pastor to blame. He told her that if she had any bible questions that she should ask him. He wasn’t there that night, and I must have had a bullseye on my back. I won’t go into the question but I did find the answer and called her with the answer. Know I know, and knowing is half the battle - GO JOE!

10. I have a twelve year old son who is 5′9″, 193 lbs., Size 12 shoe, and wants to be a professional wrestler. But he still knows who is dad is and that I can kick his tail! LOL! Love them with inferred fear!

11. I am probably the biggest MMA fan you will ever meet! I have a killer collection of UFC DVD’s, and am certain that Anderson Silva will be beat before he supposedly retires. I am an Ultimate Fighter, wed nights on Spike TV . . . after I get in from church! LOL!, fan and really liked EliteXC before it closed it’s doors. Uriah Faber from WEC is one of my favorites . . .

but my all time favorite is Clay Guida from UFC.

He is a BEAST!!!!! Yet surprisingly small. I am not a favorite of the Heavy weights, although Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Couture will be an interesting fight - Couture will win by the way, but I love the lower weight classes, middle weights and below. They scrap more, way more action, faster, quicker!

12. My cell phone is an ATT Tilt, with Windows Mobile. I love it! Some of the programs I have on it are a great bible program, a guitar tuner, a metronome, and the coolest is a lightening to thunder calculation program that lets me know how far away it actually was.

13. Since I am superstitious, I will skip this number in the list . . . skipping . . .

14. I am thinking about starting an online social network for worship leaders. Interested? Let me know.

15. I am trying to figure out exactly what the words “wert” and “art” mean! You know . . . . “who wert and art and evermore shall be.” Wert . . . that is a hilarious word. I know its an older version of the word were, but think about it if we added “t” or “rt” at the end of every word. Ifrt wet didrt thent mayrt wet wouldr havt somert hilariousrt conversationst!

16. I am hooked on the websites lifehacker.com, engadget.com, digg.com, and sherdog.com!

Ok! There Conner, I bore my soul to you. Better?!

LOOK we so need to hang out:
    - MY first guitar was a POC I bought off a buddy so he could get a new pair of rollerblades for $100! Haha.
    - The only student loan I used was during my Sr. year at LSU when I took it out just so I could get Rae’s wedding ring :)
    - Lead worship for youth? Check!
    - MMA! SERIOUSLY?!? Awesome. Rae and I got hooked on The Ultimate Fighter season 1 when my old buddy Sam Hagar went on. He was a total idiot on the show but we’ve been watching ever since !
    - If you haven’t already, you shook check out Fred’s worship community at theworshipcommunity.com
That used to be a passion of mine locally but now that I’m in Youth I’m moving in that direction instead.

    Great stuff man!
